H&K Recieves Two Asphalt Pavement Quality Awards
Skippack, PA - On the evening of January 29th, 2019, The H&K Group, Inc. (H&K) was named Pennsylvania Asphalt Pavement Quality (APQ) Award Winners for two asphalt paving construction projects at the Pennsylvania Asphalt Pavement Association’s (PAPA) 59th Annual Conference. The awards program recognizes outstanding achievement in asphalt paving construction. H&K had representatives in attendance at the conference seeking to keep the company current with the latest advancements in the industry. The event was held from January 28th to January 30th at The Hotel Hershey in Hershey, PA.

The first APQ Award was in recognition of Pikes Creek Site Contractors’ work on State Route 11 in Luzerne County, PA, performed with 13,350 tons of asphalt paving materials produced by Wilkes-Barre Materials, L.L.C. The project’s scope included full width milling, base repair, scratch and overlay. Winners were determined based on a weighted score out of 50 total possible points, taking the categories of Ride, Mix Quality, Mat Compaction, Joint Construction, Innovative Features and Contractor Responsiveness into account. This State Route 11 project scored a 44.6/50, particularly standing out in the areas of Mat Compaction (96%) and Joint Construction (92%).

The second APQ Award was in recognition of Haines & Kibblehouse, Inc.’s work on State Route 6001 (Roosevelt Boulevard) Section PD7, which also included a portion of I-95, in Philadelphia County, PA. Work was performed with 54,000 combined tons of asphalt paving materials produced in tandem by Delaware Valley Asphalt and Sanatoga Asphalt. The project’s focus was the resurfacing of the asphalt, including mill and overlay. This Roosevelt Boulevard & I-95 project scored a remarkable 48.55/50 (97.1%), indicating near-perfect craftsmanship by PAPA’s standards. Perfect 100% quality scores were achieved in the areas of Ride, Mat Compaction, Innovative Features and Contractor Responsiveness.

Congratulations to Delaware Valley Asphalt, Haines & Kibblehouse, Inc., Pikes Creek Site Contractors, Sanatoga Asphalt and Wilkes-Barre Materials! As evidenced by the collaboration between these H&K affiliates, both projects were team efforts, and teamwork is a pathway to excellence.
