John B. Haines IV

John B. Haines IV

Mr. John B. Haines IV is the Founder and Co-Chairman of the Board of H&K Group, Inc. (H&K), one of the Mid-Atlantic Region’s largest privately owned heavy civil construction and construction materials companies.  H&K will celebrate a half-century of business excellence in 2018.

John began forging the framework for Haines & Kibblehouse, Inc. in 1957 when he partnered with close friend, Terry Koch, to form “Haines & Koch,” which was operated as a small excavating company from John’s home in Worcester Township, Pennsylvania. By 1964, John had reconnected with childhood friend, John R. “Jack” Kibblehouse, and together with partners, Lee Detwiler and Harry Budenz, ultimately formed Haines & Kibblehouse, Inc. in 1968. Since this time, John B. Haines’s persona, leadership skills, passion, and gift for communicating the company’s vision, have enabled impressive growth of one of the region’s hallmark family-owned companies.

During his 50-year reign at H&K, John has overseen the company’s business development ventures and external operations; with focus on both the contracting and materials sectors of the company. In recent years, John has seen his role at H&K shift from the uncompromising front man, to broad operational oversight, with a focus on mentoring the company as it transitions into second and third generation family ownership. John has and will continue to take a firm stance on focused, controlled growth, while ensuring that principals upon which the company was founded, remain woven into the fabric of future company growth and holdings. Described by his contemporaries and business associates alike as an open-minded, fair, focused businessman with an uncanny ability to find success, John’s persona has become synonymous with the “H&K” brand.

Founder • Friend • Gentleman • Industry Icon

Remembered for his firm business focus and calm demeanor, John R. “Jack” Kibblehouse, Sr. joined forces with childhood friend, John B. Haines IV, and partners Terry Koch (deceased), Harry R. “Butch” Budenz and Lee S. Detwiler to form Haines & Kibblehouse, Inc. in 1968. Over the next 54 years, Mr. Kibblehouse would play an integral role in setting the underpinnings of the corporation, directing its business operations and steadily guiding growth and expansion of the corporation. In 2007, he was appointed Co-Chairman of the Board, sharing the role with friend and Co-Founder, John B. Haines IV, as the current (or “second generation”) ownership structure was established within Haines & Kibblehouse, Inc. From this juncture, Mr. Kibblehouse guided, directed and tirelessly mentored the corporation, quite literally, until he passed on November 2nd of 2022.

In its present configuration, H&K Group, Inc., or “H&K” as we are commonly known, is positioned as one of the largest and most successful privately owned and operated heavy civil contracting and construction materials companies in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Mr. Kibblehouse and the Kibblehouse “K” will forever be emboldened in the brand and remembered as the firm, nurturing spirit behind the region’s heavy civil contracting and construction materials giant that H&K has become.

Mr. Kibblehouse is also remembered as one of the founding partners of HYK Construction Company, Inc. (HYK), formed with friends and business associates, John B. Haines, IV and Paul Yerk, Jr. (deceased). This trio established Rahns Construction Materials Company (RAHNS) in 1974 in Rahns, Pennsylvania and also formed Rahns Trucking, Inc. in 1999. Since this time, RAHNS has grown into one of the premier ready-mix concrete, precast concrete and trucking powerhouses in the eastern PA/NJ region.

With heartfelt love and deep admiration,
