H&K Inc. Presents Borough Council with First Official Look at Cornwall, PA, June 9, 2009 – Cornwall Borough Council had the opportunity to officially view plans and take comment for a 500 plus home, hotel and water-park community that is being proposed by owner/developer Haines & Kibblehouse, Inc. (H&K). The proposed development will be situated on lands formerly utilized for historic iron ore mining and will be planned, designed and built to take full advantage of the rustic nature of the site. The proposed development will also encircle the landmark lake that now defines the limits of the once open pit portion of the Cornwall iron workings.
This first public meeting comes after a campaign of community outreach and planning that occurred earlier this spring with several of the existing developments or communities that surround the proposed development site. In order to seek direct community input and involvement regarding the proposed development plan, H&K organized three separate private meetings with the adjoining communities. The plan presented to Borough Council on June 8, thus represented a development scenario that was not only derived from allowable zoning criteria, but also took
into account the collective preliminary input from the communities that would be most connected to the proposed development.
The current plan for “The Preserve at Historic Cornwall Village” (as the project has been coined by H&K) calls for some 590 homes to be built on the 570-acre site with a hotel, water park, marina and other associated lakebased recreation areas and facilities. Given the size and complexity of the plan being placed before the Borough, Council members have asked H&K to escrow review monies so that the necessary experts can be hired to evaluate the project before action can ultimately be taken on the plan.
