Terra Structures Wins Hardscape North America 2009 Project Award

Terra Structures, a member of The H&K Group Family of Companies, was awarded the 2009 Hardscape North America Project Award at their 2nd Annual Awards Ceremony, held in Atlanta, GA.

The award presented was in the Commercial category, and was accepted by Allied Concrete on behalf of Terra Structures, as they were unable to attend the awards ceremony.

The winning project was for a Highland Stone® 3”/6” retaining wall, constructed at the Knollwood Military Retirement Residence in Washington, D.C. Using product produced at Allied Concrete Products in Richmond, Virginia, the project combined big-wall functionality with the aesthetically pleasing look of Highland Stone 3”/6” product, which is most commonly seen in residential projects. Another notable aspect of this project was its use of direct anchorage, a process that uses soil anchors and steel plates to stabilize the soil. Surrounding the narrow project site were
several mature trees that needed to stay intact, and this was made possible by method of  reinforcement.

The awards ceremony is produced by organizations such as The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute, along with the Brick Industry Association and National Concrete Masonry Association. The intent of their annual awards ceremony is to recognize outstanding hardscape projects by contractors in residential and commercial/ industrial applications. These projects include but are not limited to walkways, patios, driveways, retaining walls, plazas, parking lots, and airports. The award winning projects will be featured in industry trade publications including The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Magazine.
