On Sunday, August 30th, Birdsboro Materials will sponsor the 6th Annual ‘Hit The Hay’ 8 mile trail run and walk. This is the fourth year Birdsboro Materials will have the opportunity to assist with this annual event. Birdsboro Materials officials are labeling this event as both a community outreach event for this quarry facility and a wonderful opportunity to help raise awareness about the Hay Creek Watershed Association and the environmental value that the watershed brings to the Schuylkill River basin. Birdsboro Materials operates a state-permitted surface mining operation or quarry within a portion of the 22 square mile Hay Creek Watershed.
The 2009 ‘Hit The Hay’ event will occur on Sunday, August 30th, beginning at 9:00 AM. This event will be run within an existing recreational park and wooded trail system that rims the southern and western limits of Birdsboro Materials quarry. Birdsboro Materials’ quarry facility is located at 1267 Hay Creek Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508. Registration for the event begins at 7:30 AM and the main race event starts at 9:00 AM. The race event will be professionally timed and scored.
This run/walk race event will begin within Birdsboro Borough’s Rustic Picnic Area, which is located off of State Route 82 (Hay Creek Road), just south of Birdsboro immediately adjacent to the Birdsboro Materials quarry entrance. From the Rustic Park Picnic Area, the race course will then continue on into 8 miles of pristine forested trails, and will also include rugged terrain, multiple water crossings, and picturesque scenery. Registration giveaways, race prizes, and refreshments will be supplied. This event will be held rain or shine.
