ABE Materials to Offer Bulk Agricultural Lime at New Sale Price
Easton, PA – ABE Materials, producer of a full line of crushed stone products and asphalt materials, is proud to now offer crushed agricultural limestone at the low cost of $8.75 per ton. ABE Materials quarries limestone and dolomite for use as an aggregate product for building materials, but also quarries stone selected for its high purity in Calcium Carbonate and Magnesium Carbonate for agricultural use. This limestone is crushed and sized to be easily applied with spinner-type spreaders. ABE Materials’ diversified crushing and materials handling operations provide us with the capacity to offer this agricultural lime at a lower cost than other suppliers.
Agricultural lime is used to increase the pH level, thereby lowering the acidity of soil. Acidic soil will reduce plant growth by inhibiting the intake of major plant nutrients, such as Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium. Agricultural lime improves the uptake of these major plant nutrients, as well as providing a source of calcium and magnesium. A controlled soil pH level can improve both fertilizer and herbicide efficiency and result in significantly increased crop yields.
The high rainfall levels experienced in the region this season will likely result in higher than usual soil acidity due to leaching. Additionally, land used for crop and livestock can become more acidic over time due to crop removal. Soil with low levels of naturally occurring lime can be very slow to balance the pH level, if at all.
